KABUL (Afghanistan), July 21(HS): Heavy rainfall has caused widespread devastation across Afghanistan, resulting in significant loss of life and property. Torrential rains triggered flash floods in the eastern province of Nuristan on Monday, leaving at least 20 people dead, more than 80 injured, and around 100 others missing, according to government authorities.

According to a report by Afghanistan's Pajhwok News Agency, the Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) has confirmed the incident and warned that the death toll could rise as rescue operations continue.

The authority said that, according to preliminary information, the recent flash floods in Parun, the capital of Nuristan Province, claimed the lives of at least 20 people. More than 80 others sustained injuries, while over 100 people remain unaccounted for.

In an official statement, the authority described the casualty figures as preliminary, noting that emergency response and rescue teams are still operating in the affected areas. It added that verified information would be shared with the media after the completion of detailed surveys and damage assessments.

Officials said the flooding has caused extensive destruction across the affected region, and the number of fatalities and injuries may change as rescue and assessment efforts progress.
