New Delhi, 02 July (H.S.): Environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk's health continued to deteriorate on Thursday as he entered the fifth day of his hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. His blood sugar level reportedly dropped to 60, while his blood pressure also fell well below normal levels, triggering growing concern among his supporters.
Abhijeet Dipke, head of the social media campaign Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), said in a post on X, Sonam Wangchuk's blood sugar level has dropped to 60, while his blood pressure has fallen significantly below normal. His condition is serious.
Supporters also warned the government through social media posts that it would bear full responsibility if any harm came to Wangchuk's health.
Meanwhile, Wangchuk's wife visited Jantar Mantar on Thursday to encourage him during the ongoing protest. Expressing solidarity, supporters said that no struggle is difficult when one has the support of loved ones.
Amid the protest, two young volunteers attempted to set up an open library at the demonstration site for public reading. Protesters alleged that Delhi Police behaved inappropriately with the volunteers. According to the protesters, ACP Ajay Sharma and his team arrived at the site and removed the library being set up by the students. They further alleged that several books, including those based on the lives of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Bhagat Singh, along with other publications, were thrown onto the ground.
The incident sparked anger among students and demonstrators gathered at Jantar Mantar. They demanded the immediate suspension of ACP Ajay Sharma and the police personnel allegedly involved in the incident.
Notably, the protest organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has been continuing at Jantar Mantar for the past 13 days, with Wangchuk observing a hunger strike for the last five days. The protesters are demanding accountability in the alleged NEET paper leak case and have called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
