New Delhi, 02 July (H.S.): The Delhi High Court has directed the removal of AI-generated obscene and defamatory content targeting actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Ravi Kishan. Justice Jyoti Singh passed the order while hearing Kishan's plea seeking protection of his personality rights.
The court directed that if the users who uploaded the obscene and defamatory content relating to Ravi Kishan fail to remove it within one week, Google shall take down the identified links from its platforms.
During the hearing, Ravi Kishan's counsel, N. Hariharan, submitted that AI-generated obscene, pornographic and other defamatory content was being circulated in the form of reels on Instagram and other social media platforms. He referred to several web links and sought directions for their removal.
Hariharan argued that the petitioner is a public figure and that false and objectionable content was being disseminated in his name. He also referred to the Ishq segment of 104.8 FM radio, contending that it violated Ravi Kishan's personality rights and commercially exploited his identity without authorisation.
The Delhi High Court has previously granted similar protection to the personality rights of several prominent public figures. These include Congress leader Shashi Tharoor; actors Arjun Kapoor, Allu Arjun, Mohanlal, Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, Vivek Oberoi, Kajol, Sonakshi Sinha, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan; spiritual leaders Aniruddhacharya, Baba Ramdev and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar; former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar; India men's cricket head coach and former MP Gautam Gambhir; Patanjali Ayurved Managing Director Acharya Balkrishna; Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan; actress and MP Jaya Bachchan; journalist Sudhir Chaudhary; Telugu actor Nagarjuna; and filmmaker Karan Johar. In these cases, the court restrained unauthorised use of their names, images, voices or other attributes associated with their personalities.
