New Delhi, 02 July (H.S.): Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday criticised the Central Government over the latest incident of violence in Manipur, saying the state continues to suffer from unrest and that normalcy has yet to be restored despite the imposition of President's Rule.
In a post on social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi said Manipur had once again witnessed hatred and violence, with 20 houses reportedly destroyed in fresh arson. He said thousands of people had lost their lives and countless families had been displaced, adding that it was difficult to imagine the scale of suffering the state has endured.
Rahul Gandhi alleged that the continuing crisis was the result of an ideology that divides people on the basis of religion, caste, language, region and identity. He claimed that not only Manipur but the entire country had now given up hope of even receiving empathy from the government.
He said Manipur deserves a better future and stressed that the need of the hour is to unite society. According to Rahul Gandhi, the country must remain united and rise above divisive politics.
Notably, more than 20 houses were set on fire on Wednesday during clashes between members of the Naga and Kuki communities near the India-Myanmar border in Manipur's Kamjong district. Tension continues to prevail in the area, and security deployment has been strengthened following the incident.
