Kolkata, 17 July (H.S.): A complaint has been lodged at Jibantala Police Station in South 24 Parganas against Trinamool Congress National General Secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee, along with six others, alleging their involvement in an alleged interstate fake educational certificate racket.

The complaint was filed on Friday by BJP leader Abhijit Das alias Bobby, who named Abhishek Banerjee, TMC leader Shaukat Molla, Banerjee's close associates Sumit Roy and Ayan Ghosh Dastidar, among others.

According to the complainant, discrepancies were found in the educational qualifications declared by Shaukat Molla in his election affidavits over the years. He alleged that certificates were issued in the names of institutions located outside West Bengal and questioned how regular courses could have been completed while Molla was residing and working in the state. Based on these claims, Das alleged the existence of an organised fake certificate racket.

Das said he had submitted a detailed complaint seeking an investigation into the alleged network. He added that Jibantala Police had assured him that the matter would be examined.

There has been no official response from Abhishek Banerjee or the other persons named in the complaint so far. Police have also not confirmed the registration of an FIR or any arrests in connection with the allegations. The allegations are yet to be independently verified, and further action will depend on the outcome of the investigation.
