
Guwahati, 17 July (HS): Prices of essential commodities have witnessed a sharp rise over the past week, putting additional financial pressure on consumers across Assam.
The price of BPT rice has increased by ₹8 per kg within a week. A 26-kg sack, which earlier sold for ₹1,220, is now being sold at ₹1,410. The price of Sonashakti rice has also gone up significantly.
Sugar prices have risen by ₹6 per kg, with retail rates increasing from ₹48 to ₹54 per kg. Onion prices have also registered an upward trend in local markets.
Edible oil has become costlier by ₹5 per litre, adding to the rising cost of household essentials.
Meanwhile, egg prices continue to climb steadily. A tray of eggs that was earlier priced at ₹220 is now being sold for ₹270, further increasing the burden on consumers already grappling with soaring food prices.-----------
