New Delhi, 16 July (H.S.):

The Central Government has released the draft Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency-III (CAFE-III) norms and invited suggestions and feedback from stakeholders and the general public by August 6.

According to the Ministry of Power, the proposed standards are intended to apply to M1 category passenger vehicles manufactured or imported for sale in India during the period from 2027-28 to 2031-32. Stakeholders and members of the public have been invited to submit their comments and recommendations on the draft framework. The draft norms will also be uploaded shortly on the official websites of the Ministry of Power and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).

The proposed CAFE-III norms have been formulated to ensure a phased reduction in vehicular emissions and will replace the existing CAFE-II standards, which are expected to remain in force until March 31, 2027. The new framework aims to further strengthen India's efforts to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions from passenger vehicles.
