
New Delhi, 16 July (H.S.): Global markets presented mixed cues on Thursday. U.S. equities ended the previous session on a positive note, while Dow Jones Futures also traded marginally higher in early trade. European markets closed with mixed results after remaining under pressure throughout most of the previous session, and Asian markets were witnessing mixed trading during the day.
Investor sentiment on Wall Street remained upbeat following indications of easing inflationary pressures. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 150.91 points, or 0.29 per cent, to close at 52,659.18. The S&P 500 advanced 0.38 per cent to settle at 7,572.40, while the Nasdaq Composite climbed 159.74 points, or 0.61 per cent, to finish at 26,266.75.
Dow Jones Futures were also trading higher, rising 0.07 per cent to 52,697.98 during early trading.
European markets ended the previous session with mixed performances after trading under sustained pressure. The FTSE Index slipped 0.13 per cent to close at 10,515.92. Germany's DAX declined 147.50 points, or 0.59 per cent, to settle at 24,999.53.
In contrast, France's CAC 40 recovered in late trading on buying support and ended 0.19 per cent higher at 8,382.43.
Asian markets also witnessed mixed trading. Of the nine major regional markets, five were trading in positive territory while four remained in the red.
Japan's Nikkei Index was among the worst performers, falling 1,556.51 points, or 2.26 per cent, to 67,195. China's Shanghai Composite declined 0.82 per cent to 3,923.20. South Korea's Kospi Index came under heavy selling pressure, plunging 418.27 points, or 5.74 per cent, to 6,866.14. Singapore's Straits Times Index also slipped 0.53 per cent to 5,530.48.
On the positive side, Gift Nifty was trading 103 points, or 0.43 per cent, higher at 24,145, indicating a firm opening for Indian equities. Thailand's SET Composite Index gained 0.43 per cent to 1,637.17.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index posted strong gains, climbing 473.90 points, or 1.88 per cent, to 25,155. Indonesia's Jakarta Composite Index advanced 0.48 per cent to 6,070.92, while Taiwan's Weighted Index edged up 0.10 per cent to 45,679.12.
