Guwahati, 13 July (HS): Titabor MLA Dhiraj Gowala on Monday dismissed allegations that the Assam Government was taking away land belonging to tea garden workers, calling the claims completely false and baseless.

Speaking after a high-level meeting with senior police officials in Kaziranga, Gowala said a government that has already granted land pattas to 3.5 lakh tea workers' families cannot be accused of grabbing their land.

He alleged that the opposition has become envious of the developmental initiatives undertaken by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma for the welfare and upliftment of the tea community. According to Gowala, certain groups are deliberately conspiring to defame the government and create unnecessary controversy.

Referring to the proposed five-star Hyatt hotel and the Tea Tribes Cultural Complex in Kaziranga, the MLA claimed that vested interests were attempting to mislead the public and politically target the government over the projects.
