
Bhubaneswar, 13 July (H.S.): Kesinga Railway Station in Odisha's Kalahandi district has undergone a significant transformation, emerging as a modern, passenger-friendly facility under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. This redevelopment, costing approximately ₹22 crore, has resulted in improved infrastructure, enhanced amenities, and better accessibility.
According to a release by East Coast Railway, the project encompassed a comprehensive modernization of the station building and the construction of a new second entry. Key additions include a 12-meter-wide Foot Over Bridge equipped with three lifts, upgraded platforms, improved shelters, widened approach roads, and dedicated pedestrian pathways, alongside an advanced drainage system. For passenger convenience, the station now features upgraded toilets, a retiring room, and a dormitory.
Designed with inclusivity at its core, the renovated station offers improved access and safer movement for senior citizens, Divyangjan, and all other passengers. These enhancements are expected to boost connectivity and stimulate economic activity in Kalahandi, benefiting commuters, traders, farmers, students, and tourists alike.
Established in 1931, Kesinga Railway Station is a vital hub on the Raipur–Vizianagaram line of the East Coast Railway, serving as a crucial transport link for western Odisha. It plays a significant role in connecting Kalahandi with major cities and fostering regional development.
The upgraded station is also poised to bolster tourism in the district, renowned for its tribal heritage, cultural traditions, Ghumura dance, handloom, and handicrafts. With its modern facilities and improved accessibility, Kesinga Railway Station will serve as a welcoming gateway to the region.
Kesinga is one of 57 railway stations in Odisha undergoing redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and is among those being dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister. This transformation underscores Indian Railways' commitment to developing modern, inclusive, and future-ready railway infrastructure nationwide.
