Guwahati, 13 July (HS): The Assam Government has adopted an uncompromising approach against drug trafficking, Minister Pijush Hazarika said in the Assam Legislative Assembly on Monday.

Replying to a question raised by the Congress MLA from Mankachar, the minister said that the number of drug-related cases registered since 2021 has increased nearly tenfold compared to the cases registered 12 years ago. He attributed the sharp rise in cases to Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma's strong political will and firm commitment to combating the drug menace.

Hazarika further informed the House that, on average, around 100 kg of heroin has been seized annually over the past five years, reflecting the government's intensified anti-drug drive across the state. He reiterated that the government remains determined to eradicate the drug menace through sustained enforcement and strict legal action.-----------
