Guwahati, 13 July (HS): The BJP has criticized Assam Congress Legislature Party leader Wajed Ali Choudhury and Deputy Leader Jayaprakash Das for defending the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) amid the severe artificial flooding that has affected Jorabat and several parts of Guwahati. Both the Congress leaders were talking to media persons on Monday while come to participate the ongoing Assam Legislative Assembly session.
According to the BJP, large-scale hill cutting for the construction of USTM has led to recurring artificial floods in Jorabat and adjoining areas. The party claimed that hundreds of vehicles have remained stranded since Sunday due to waterlogging caused by the flooding.
The BJP further alleged that instead of holding USTM responsible, Wajed Ali Choudhury and Jayaprakash Das have come forward to defend the institution. The party also accused the Congress leaders of stating that USTM should not be blamed for the devastating floods in Jorabat.
The remarks have triggered a fresh political debate over the causes of flooding and accountability for the recurring waterlogging in the Guwahati-Jorabat region.----------
