
Accused had also attacked his mother and another brother with a knifeChandigarh, 13 July (H.S.): District court Chandigarh has sentenced Ajay, a resident of Dadu Majra, to life imprisonment for stabbing his real brother to death in a drunken rage. The court convicted him on the basis of witness statements, medical reports and other evidence in the nearly three-year-old case.The incident took place in November 2023 in Dadu Majra, Sector 38. According to police, Ajay returned home under the influence of alcohol and started arguing with his family members. He allegedly abused and assaulted his mother. When his two brothers tried to calm him down, the situation escalated.After some time, Ajay returned with a spring-action knife and attacked his elder brother Anil repeatedly. When his younger brother Rahul tried to intervene, Ajay also stabbed him multiple times. Their mother, who tried to save both her sons, was also injured in the knife attack.Both brothers were seriously injured and were first taken to the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital in Sector 16. They were later referred to PGI, where one of the brothers died during treatment. The mother and the other brother also underwent treatment for their injuries.After the attack, Ajay climbed onto the roof of the house and threatened to commit suicide. A team from Maloya police station reached the spot and managed to overpower him. He was later arrested and sent to jail.During investigation, police found that Ajay earlier used to run a roadside stall in Sector 22 but had not been working for several years. He was allegedly addicted to alcohol. Police also stated that his wife had left him due to his behaviour. The accused has two children.The incident had taken place around 9 pm on Karva Chauth night. Anil was on the roof with his wife when Ajay started quarrelling with the family. The matter was initially pacified after Rahul intervened, but around 15 to 20 minutes later, Ajay came downstairs with a knife and attacked Anil.Police had registered a case against Ajay under charges of murder, attempt to murder and other relevant sections.
