Nine deaths in Moshi Garbage Depot incident, Rescue operations completed


Pune, 13 July

(HS): The rescue operations in Moshi Garbage Depot of Pimpri-Chinchwad in Pune

district concluded after 84 hour. Nine people died as huge herbage dump slides

on a building in the premises burying several workers under the garbage heap.

Municipal Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryavanshi announced a financial support of Rs

10 lakh each to the families of the deceased. He also directed registering

offence against the Contractor and the Environment Department.

An enquiry into

the accident was initiated. The garbage was dumped in the depot under the

Wealth to Energy project. The heap of garbage collapse on a building near it

and damaged it on July 8. At the time of the accident 22 workers were in the

building a one outside it. Out of them five somehow came out of the building. Teams

of Indian Army, NDRF, Municipal Corporation, Fire Brigade used modern excavator

to rescue those buried under the garbage. Nine people, however, could be saved.

The deceased

were identified as Bhavesh Wani (33), Akshay Sawant (35), Sunil Korke (40),

Sunny Mane (39), Mahesh Kumbhar (33), Nagesh Gaikwad (26), Ranjot Patil (22),

Rahul Gaikwad (34) and Waman Kasbe (50).

Pimpri-Chinchwad

Mayor Ravi Landge amd Municipal Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryavanshi have condoled

the deaths.
