WASHINGTON/BEIRUT, 11 July (H.S.): The United States could play an active role in implementing the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah. According to media reports, a delegation from the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) is expected to visit Beirut, the Lebanese capital, in the coming days.
According to a report by Türkiye's state-run Anadolu Agency, citing two senior Lebanese officials, the visit may take place ahead of the proposed technical talks between Lebanon and Israel scheduled to be held in Rome next week. The primary objective of the talks will be to implement the U.S.-backed framework agreement reached on June 26, which provides for the phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory.
A spokesperson for the U.S. State Department confirmed that CENTCOM has been maintaining close coordination with both sides at the technical and logistical levels. However, the spokesperson declined to comment officially on the delegation's possible visit.
The spokesperson said the framework agreement has now entered the implementation phase and that the first pilot zone is expected to be launched soon. Mapping and planning for additional areas are also currently underway.
The spokesperson further stated that the United States will soon enhance coordination with its international partners to help the Lebanese government effectively restore its sovereignty across the country, including in the affected areas.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has not issued any official response regarding the matter.
According to Lebanon's Ministry of Public Health, the death toll from Israeli attacks has risen to 4,321, while 12,204 people have been injured since March 2.
Notably, Israeli forces continue to maintain a presence in several areas of southern Lebanon. Some of these locations have been under Israeli occupation for decades, while others came under Israeli control during the 2023–2024 conflict. During the latest military campaign, Israeli troops advanced approximately 10 kilometres inside Lebanese territory.
