
New Delhi, 01 July (H.S.): Reliance Jio delivered the best overall performance in the mobile network quality test conducted by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in Maharashtra's Satara district. Jio outperformed other telecom operators in key parameters, including download speed, network coverage and call quality, while BSNL recorded the highest call drop rate and the largest coverage gaps.
The Ministry of Communications said TRAI conducted the Independent Drive Test (IDT) in Satara district from March 10 to 13. The assessment covered 535.5 kilometres of city routes, 103.3 kilometres of highway routes, 15 major hotspots and a 9.8-kilometre walk-test area to evaluate the quality of mobile services. Networks of Airtel, BSNL, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea (Vi) were tested during the exercise.
According to the report, Jio recorded the lowest number of weak signal samples in city and surrounding areas. Out of 57,826 samples collected, Jio registered 3,467 weak signal samples. Airtel recorded 4,033, Vodafone Idea 4,191 and BSNL 16,393 weak signal samples, indicating that BSNL's network coverage was significantly weaker than that of the other operators.
BSNL also performed the worst in terms of call drops. The operator recorded 38 dropped calls out of 493 successful call attempts. Airtel registered five dropped calls out of 515 successful calls, Jio recorded six dropped calls out of 524, while Vodafone Idea reported only three dropped calls out of 521 successful calls.
Jio also led in mobile data performance. In city and surrounding areas, it achieved an average download speed of 176.95 Mbps. Airtel recorded an average download speed of 113.79 Mbps, followed by Vodafone Idea at 46.86 Mbps and BSNL at 5.66 Mbps.
In upload speed, Jio remained the top performer with an average of 19.81 Mbps. Airtel closely followed at 19.33 Mbps, while Vodafone Idea recorded 12.92 Mbps and BSNL 2.14 Mbps.
Jio also topped the performance rankings along the Pune-Satara highway route, recording an average download speed of 261.99 Mbps. Airtel registered 113.12 Mbps, Vodafone Idea 25.88 Mbps and BSNL 8.73 Mbps on the same route.
