
Imphal, 01 July (HS): Manipur Police and security forces carried out a series of successful operations across the state over the last 24 hours, arresting militants linked to proscribed outfits, recovering a large cache of arms and explosives and seizing narcotics from suspected traffickers.
Police arrested an active cadre of KYKL, identified as Soraisam Joykumar alias Etomba (45), from Khabeisoi in Imphal East district for his alleged involvement in transporting arms and ammunition. In a separate operation, another active cadre of RPF/PLA, Elangbam Raju Singh (34), was apprehended from Hiyanglam Mayai Leikai in Kakching district.
During a search operation at Sanjenlok under Sagolmang Police Station in Imphal East district, security personnel recovered an AK rifle, a 9 mm pistol, a country-made carbine, 19 hand grenades, two tube launchers, detonators, ammunition of different calibres and nine magazines.
In connection with an FIR related to grenade attacks on residential houses in Imphal East district, police arrested two active PREPAK cadres and a juvenile from Sawombung under Lamlai Police Station. Investigators said the group had allegedly received six grenades from their handler, five of which had already been used in attacks across Imphal East and Imphal West districts. The remaining grenade and two scooters used in the incidents were recovered.
In Bishnupur district, two alleged KYKL extortionists, Pukhrambam Bimol Meitei alias Inaobi (41) and Pukhrambam Rabi Singh alias Khang (37), were arrested from Kumbi. A Honda Activa scooter was seized during the operation.
In another major operation, security forces intercepted a Hyundai i20 car at Leingangpokpi in Jiribam district and arrested two occupants from Rajasthan, identified as Dhanraj Prajapat (46) and Buddha Ram (44). Around 5 kg of opium, ₹50,000 in cash and the vehicle were seized. Investigations into all the cases are underway.----------
