Tokyo, 01 July (H.S.):

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will undertake a three-day official visit to India from July 1 to 3 for high-level talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as Tokyo and India seek to further strengthen their strategic partnership amid evolving geopolitical and economic challenges in the Indo-Pacific.

The visit, announced by Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, will include a bilateral summit in New Delhi on Thursday, where the two leaders are expected to review progress under the Japan-India Special Strategic and Global Partnership and outline new areas of cooperation.

According to the Japanese Foreign Ministry, the summit will focus on advancing the Japan-India Joint Vision for the Next Decade, unveiled during Prime Minister Modi's visit to Japan in August 2025. Discussions will centre on expanding cooperation in economic security, energy resilience, investment, advanced technologies, innovation, and sustainable economic growth.

The two leaders are also expected to exchange views on regional and global developments, with particular emphasis on maintaining a Free and Open Indo-Pacific, strengthening resilient supply chains, and enhancing collaboration in areas of shared strategic interest.

India and Japan have significantly broadened their partnership in recent years, deepening cooperation in defence and maritime security, critical and emerging technologies, infrastructure development, clean energy, semiconductor supply chains, and connectivity initiatives. Both countries have increasingly coordinated their positions on regional security and rules-based international order in the Indo-Pacific.

Prime Minister Takaichi's visit is expected to reaffirm the growing convergence between Asia's second- and fifth-largest economies at a time of heightened geopolitical competition and accelerating efforts to diversify global supply chains.

Following the summit and official engagements in New Delhi, Prime Minister Takaichi will conclude her visit on Friday and return to Tokyo.
