Israel Monitoring Developments on US-Iran Deal - Deputy Foreign Minister

MOSCOW, July 1 (HS/RIA Novosti) - Israel supports US President Donald Trump's peace initiative to resolve the conflict with Iran but needs to see how the situation develops, Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Yuval Fuchs said on Wednesday, commenting on the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran.

The negotiations are given 60 days. We expressed support for President Trump's vision that Iran must not possess nuclear capabilities, its missile program must be dismantled, and its support for proxy forces must end, but we still have to see how events unfold, Fuchs told Russian newspaper Izvestia.

Overnight into June 18, Iran and the United States remotely signed the memorandum that provides for an end to the military conflict that began on February 28. The document also sets timelines for the US to lift its naval blockade of Iranian ports and for Iran to restore shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran also commits not to acquire nuclear weapons, with the issue of Iran's nuclear program to be resolved through a separate agreement. The parties will hold negotiations on this matter within 60 days. For Tehran, the outcome should be the lifting of anti-Iran sanctions.
