Istanbul, 01 July (H.S.): Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has sharply criticised Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying he is unable to govern effectively because his administration is heavily influenced by far-right ministers and ultra-Orthodox coalition partners.

According to Türkiye's state-run news agency Anadolu, Bennett alleged that National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and the Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) parties are exerting significant influence over Netanyahu's policies. He said the lack of leadership within the government has prevented independent decision-making.

Bennett said that if he were leading the government, he would immediately rein in such statements and policies and ensure that ministers remained disciplined. According to him, Netanyahu is unable to do so because he is dependent on his coalition allies to remain in power.

The former prime minister also expressed concern over Israel's international image, saying the country's reputation is being damaged not by external propaganda or media coverage, but by the actions of its own government. He further alleged that Israel lacks an effective public diplomacy strategy.

Referring to the prolonged military conflicts in Gaza, Lebanon and Iran, Bennett said the ongoing campaigns run contrary to Israel's traditional military doctrine. He argued that extended wars place a heavy burden on the country's economy and its reserve forces.

If a war has to be fought, it should be swift and decisive, so that victory is achieved quickly and stability is restored. Prolonged wars weaken the country, Bennett said.
