Wall Street Ends Higher on Tech Rally as Asian Markets Deliver Mixed Performance

New Delhi, 01 July (H.S.): Global markets provided positive cues on Wednesday, with U.S. equities closing higher in the previous session and European markets also ending in positive territory. However, Dow Jones Futures traded lower in early trade, while Asian markets witnessed mixed performance.

U.S. markets gained momentum during the previous session, driven by strong buying in technology stocks. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 136.46 points, or 0.26 percent, to close at 52,319.20. The S&P 500 rose 0.79 percent to settle at 7,499.36, while the Nasdaq Composite surged 393.58 points, or 1.52 percent, to end the session at 26,213.72.

Despite the positive close on Wall Street, Dow Jones Futures was trading 210.11 points, or 0.40 percent, lower at 52,109.09 during early trading on Wednesday.

European markets also ended the previous session on a firm note. The UK's FTSE Index gained 0.12 percent to close at 10,497.12. France's CAC 40 advanced 0.44 percent to settle at 8,403.99, while Germany's DAX jumped 368.92 points, or 1.48 percent, to finish at 24,995.81.

Asian markets traded on a mixed note on Wednesday. Of the nine major regional indices, six were trading in positive territory, while three were in the red.

GIFT Nifty was down 0.09 percent at 23,984. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index slipped 145.66 points, or 0.64 percent, to 22,881.02. South Korea's Kospi recorded the sharpest decline among major Asian indices, falling 106.41 points, or 1.26 percent, to 8,370.07.

On the positive side, Japan's Nikkei Index rose 361.68 points, or 0.52 percent, to 70,424. Thailand's SET Composite Index gained 0.49 percent to 1,599.04.

Taiwan's Weighted Index posted the strongest gain in the region, surging 958.31 points, or 2.08 percent, to 47,084.22.

Indonesia's Jakarta Composite Index also traded strongly, climbing 1.21 percent to 5,711.30. Meanwhile, China's Shanghai Composite Index advanced 1.08 percent to 4,138.65, and Singapore's Straits Times Index edged up 0.08 percent to 5,174.89.
