Tel Aviv, 01 July (H.S.): Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday that his pursuit of total victory against Iran and its regional allies, Hamas and Hezbollah, will never end, asserting that Israel has emerged stronger despite acknowledging that some of its broader objectives in the conflict with Iran remain unmet.
According to The Times of Israel, Netanyahu made the remarks during an interview with Channel 14. Responding to a question on whether he still stood by his pledge of achieving total victory in the ongoing Gaza war, the Prime Minister said, It will never end.
Netanyahu said Israel is stronger than ever before and has significantly weakened its adversaries over the past three years. However, he added that the country still has more work to do to ensure its long-term security.
The Prime Minister praised Israel's military operations, saying the country had eliminated many senior leaders of Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran. He also highlighted the establishment of buffer zones in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria as important strategic achievements.
At the same time, Netanyahu acknowledged that the outcome of Israel's conflict with Iran had fallen short of some of the ambitious goals initially set by his government, including dismantling Iran's nuclear and missile programmes and supporting efforts aimed at political change in the country.
Asked about the possibility of future peace agreements, including with Saudi Arabia, Netanyahu declined to identify specific countries but said several nations were engaged in discussions with Israel. He indicated that Lebanon was among the countries involved in ongoing contacts.
I am not naming them because I want to show results, Netanyahu said. An understanding has emerged with Lebanon that no one expected. There are also contacts with other countries. I cannot elaborate further. When you are strong, people seek alliances with you and are also willing to make peace.
