Islamabad, 01 July (H.S.): Six employees of Mari Energies were abducted by armed men in Pakistan's Balochistan province, police confirmed on Wednesday. Authorities said security agencies have launched efforts to secure their safe release. The incident took place in the Shaban Dalwani mining area, located in the Zargun Ghar mountainous region of Balochistan.
According to The Balochistan Post, the kidnapped employees have been identified as Jalat Khan, Mohammad Hashim, Kamal Khan, Jahangir Khan, Mohammad Azim, and Roz Khan. Officials have expressed confidence that all six employees will be rescued safely at the earliest.
The mountainous region of Balochistan has recently remained in the spotlight due to counter-terrorism operations, security crackdowns, and a series of kidnappings targeting mine workers. The rugged area lies east of the provincial capital, Quetta. In recent weeks, several employees of a private mining company have also been abducted from the same region.
Mari Energies is Pakistan's second-largest natural gas producer and is listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange. The company is headquartered in Islamabad, with the Fauji Foundation holding a 40 percent stake. The Federal Government of Pakistan and Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) also hold equity in the company. Mari Energies operates the Mari Gas Field in Ghotki district of Sindh province and supplies natural gas for nearly 80 percent of Pakistan's urea production.
