After a nearly 21-hour-long rescue operation, his body was recovered from the borewell at around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Teams from the Army, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) made every possible effort to rescue the child alive, but were unable to save him.The child's body has been kept at Ambala City Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Doctors said the exact cause and time of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is received.According to officials, on Tuesday morning, Nirvair insisted on accompanying his father, Manjeet Singh, to the fields. His father initially refused, but the child innocently said, Papa, if you don't take me to the fields, I will fall sick and won't be able to go to school. Moved by his son's insistence, Manjeet Singh agreed and took him along. At around 6:30 a.m., the father and son reached the fields carrying food for Nirvair's grandfather, Karnail Singh. About half an hour later, while playing, Nirvair reportedly slipped and fell into an uncovered 220-foot-deep borewell. As soon as the incident was reported, the administration launched a massive rescue operation. Joint teams of the Army, NDRF and SDRF worked continuously for several hours to rescue the child. However, when he was finally brought out of the borewell in the early hours of Wednesday, he had already succumbed.Dr. Rishipal Singh, Medical Officer at the Civil Hospital, said the child was examined immediately after being pulled out, but no signs of movement were detected. He was then taken to the hospital, where an ECG and other necessary medical examinations confirmed that he had died. Further proceedings will be carried out after the post-mortem report is received.
