Visakhapatnam, 08 June (HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed deep grief over the tragic accident at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant in which nine workers lost their lives following an explosion involving a ladle carrying molten steel.

In a message, the Prime Minister conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the incident.

Announcing ex-gratia assistance from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF), Modi said that the next of kin of each deceased worker would be provided Rs 2 lakh, while the injured would receive Rs 50,000 each.

The Prime Minister said the accident had caused him great sorrow and noted that local authorities were extending all possible assistance to the affected families. He assured support to those impacted by the tragedy.

The accident occurred at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on Monday evening when a ladle carrying molten steel reportedly exploded, resulting in the death of nine workers and injuries to several others.
