In an unexpected development, two panchayat heads from the Trinamool Congress (TMC)-run local bodies in Tufanganj I block of Cooch Behar district resigned on Monday, citing personal and family reasons.

The leaders who stepped down are Shukla Sarkar Adhikari, head of Andaran-Phulbari I Gram Panchayat, and Abtar Ali Byapari, head of Balahut Gram Panchayat.

Both leaders submitted their resignation letters to the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Tufanganj on the same day.

The simultaneous resignations of two panchayat pradhans from the ruling party have sparked political discussion in the region. While the party has described the move as a personal decision, the timing has raised questions within local political circles.

No official statement suggesting internal conflict or administrative pressure has been issued so far. However, the development is being closely watched given its potential implications for grassroots political dynamics in the district.
