Kolkata, 08 June (H.S.) : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued unstable weather conditions across West Bengal, with heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds expected in several districts on Monday.

Following widespread showers on Sunday, temperatures in Kolkata and other parts of the state have dropped, offering temporary relief from heat and humidity. However, meteorological conditions remain favourable for further rainfall activity.

According to the IMD, several districts in South Bengal, including Birbhum, Murshidabad, Nadia, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, and parts of Medinipur, are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. Gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph are also expected in isolated pockets of North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Birbhum, Nadia, and East Medinipur.

In Kolkata, the sky remained cloudy since morning, with forecasts indicating light to moderate rain during the day. The weather office has also warned of thunderstorm activity in and around the city, advising residents to take necessary precautions while venturing outdoors.

North Bengal is expected to witness more intense rainfall activity in the coming days. Districts such as Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar are likely to receive light to moderate rain, while isolated areas in Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph are also likely across most North Bengal districts, adding to the risk of weather-related disruptions.

Meteorologists attribute the ongoing weather pattern to continuous moisture inflow from the Bay of Bengal, resulting in high humidity and conducive conditions for rain and thunderstorms. Officials have indicated that similar weather conditions may persist over the next few days.
