Madrid, 08 June (H.S.):

Florentino Pérez has once again secured victory in the election for the presidency of Real Madrid, ensuring another four-year term at the helm of the Spanish football giants. Following Sunday's election, Pérez will continue to lead the club, extending his long-standing tenure in charge.

The election marked the first genuine contest for the club's presidency in the past 20 years. Pérez had previously been elected unopposed in 2009, 2013, 2017, 2021 and 2025, making this the first time in two decades that members witnessed a competitive presidential race.

According to Real Madrid's official television channel, Pérez defeated challenger Enrique Riquelme in the vote. However, the club has not yet released the official vote count.

Pérez's victory has also fuelled speculation regarding the possible return of former head coach José Mourinho. Mourinho, who managed Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013, featured prominently in discussions throughout the election campaign, and reports suggest that his return could now become a realistic possibility.

Addressing supporters after his victory, Pérez said his primary objective remains guiding Real Madrid to further success and adding more trophies to the club's illustrious history. Celebrations following the election result continued into Monday morning.

The 79-year-old Pérez first became president of Real Madrid in 2000 and served until 2006 before stepping down. He returned to the position in 2009 and has remained in charge ever since. During his leadership, the club has won seven European Cups and played a pivotal role in reaching a record tally of 15 continental titles, further cementing Real Madrid's status as one of the most successful clubs in world football.
