Odense, 08 June (H.S.):

Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch once again on Sunday, prompting the suspension and eventual abandonment of the international friendly match between Denmark and Ukraine. The incident occurred at Nature Energy Park in Odense.

Denmark were leading 2-1 in the second half when Eriksen appeared to clutch his chest and began to fall to the ground. Medical personnel immediately rushed onto the field, and the match was halted as players and spectators watched in concern.

The Danish Football Association later confirmed that Eriksen was conscious and in stable condition. Following the incident, officials decided to abandon the match.

According to the Danish Football Association, national team doctor Morten Boesen said Eriksen was able to walk off the pitch on his own and that his implanted cardiac device functioned as intended. Boesen explained that the midfielder briefly lost consciousness but regained awareness quickly and was able to communicate shortly afterward. Eriksen also reportedly sent messages to his teammates assuring them that he was doing well.

The incident revived memories of the dramatic events during the European Championship in 2021, when Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark's match against Finland. His heart stopped for several minutes before medical staff successfully resuscitated him on the field, an intervention that ultimately saved his life.

Following that episode, Eriksen underwent surgery to receive a specialised heart device. He later made a remarkable return to professional football, resuming his club career and continuing to represent both club and country at the highest level.

Eriksen has now been taken to hospital for further medical examinations and observation. As a result of the incident, the Denmark-Ukraine friendly was not resumed.

The football community has once again rallied around the Danish midfielder, with players, officials and supporters expressing concern while awaiting further updates on his condition.
