Amravati. 08 June (HS): The decision to date of opening
schools for the new academic session, is likely to be taken on June 9. The
Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court has issued notice to submit its reply to a
public interest litigation filed against State Government decision to open all
schools in Maharashtra on June 15.
In the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra monsoon reaches
a little late. The hot and humid atmosphere in the month of June pose serious
problems for the students and teachers as well. Many students fall unconscious
and even die during the period, particularly during prayers before the starting
the classes. The average temperature in the region is above 40 degree Celsius.
On March 28, the state government has issued a
notification directing the school authorities to conduct classes between 7 am
and 11.45 an. However, in rural area the students walk for 3 to 5 km to attend
the schools. Walking to reach the schools at 7 am and going back at 12 noon
could be difficult for them. The schools conducting classes in two shifts also
face problems all the classes in the morning is difficult. The PIL pleads that
the schools in the Vidarbha region should be opened around 29 June to avoid
problems of the students and the teachers.
