MOSCOW, June 8 (HS/RIA Novosti) - Evacuation has been ordered for 181,000 people in six Japanese prefectures following a tsunami warning after a major earthquake in the Philippines, the Fire and Disaster Management Agency said on Monday.

Evacuations were ordered in Ibaraki, Mie, Kochi, Miyazaki, Kagoshima, and Okinawa prefectures.

A tsunami warning was issued for southeastern Japan after the earthquake. Waves of up to one meter are expected off Japan's coast. The warning covers a wide area from the far south to Chiba Prefecture near Tokyo.

A major earthquake occurred near the Philippines at 23:38 GMT. European seismologists put its magnitude at 8.1, while the Japan Meteorological Agency reported 8.2.
