Kolkata, 08 June (H.S.) : Senior BJP leader Sunil Bansal and West Bengal BJP president Shamik Bhattacharya has emphasised strict ideological discipline within the party, stating that individuals joining the organisation must be aligned with its core ideological framework and trained accordingly.
In a party training camp in New Town, Bansal outlined the organisational roadmap and immediate responsibilities of party workers, stressing the need to expand the BJP’s base among the Hindu population in West Bengal. He stated that the party’s objective is to ensure that a large section of the community is brought under its organisational umbrella, while also highlighting the importance of ideological commitment among members.
Bansal said the party must focus on building a strong cadre base and cautioned that individuals joining the organisation for personal or opportunistic gains would also need to be guided into the party’s ideological framework. He added that it is the responsibility of the organisation to “shape and train” such members so they can function according to party principles.
Referring to the party’s broader national reach, he noted that BJP’s membership has grown significantly, and reiterated the organisational goal of strengthening its presence at the grassroots level in West Bengal.
Meanwhile, Shamik Bhattacharya issued a strong warning against what he described as the infiltration of “TMC-style culture” within the party. He asserted that disciplinary violations would not be tolerated, and action would be taken against any member, including elected representatives, if found guilty of misconduct or indiscipline.
Bhattacharya also stressed that internal complaints regarding organisational behaviour had been received, particularly at the grassroots level, and said the party would not hesitate to take strict action if required. He added that removal of a few individuals would not weaken the organisation, reinforcing the party’s commitment to internal discipline.
The remarks come amid concerns within sections of the party over recent entrants from other political backgrounds and alleged attempts by some leaders to accommodate individuals with differing ideological orientations.
Sunil Bansal, responding to the state president’s remarks, urged party workers to understand the leadership’s expectations and questioned why such repeated reminders on discipline were necessary, calling for stronger internal awareness among cadres.
