Kolkata, 08 June (H.S.):
Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has once again skipped appearance before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with the alleged signature forgery case, sending a formal letter to the investigating agency citing an upcoming court hearing.
According to officials, the CID had issued a notice asking Banerjee to appear at its office on Monday for questioning in the ongoing probe related to alleged forgery of signatures in the West Bengal Assembly. However, Banerjee informed the agency in writing that a related matter is scheduled for hearing in the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday, and cited this as the reason for his inability to appear at this stage.
CID officials confirmed receipt of the letter and said internal discussions are underway regarding the next course of action.
Sources added that Abhishek Banerjee is currently in Delhi, where he had travelled on Saturday to attend a meeting of the INDIA bloc. He has not appeared before the investigating agency despite the summons.
The case pertains to allegations of forged signatures in legislative and procedural documents, which are under investigation by the CID. Further steps in the probe are expected to depend on legal proceedings and the agency’s review of Banerjee’s response.
