Kolkata, 05 June (H.S.) : A youth identified as Mohsin Ali was arrested from the Park Circus area in south Kolkata for allegedly collecting ₹100 each from several women for assisting them in filling up Annapurna Yojana application forms inside a local office of the Trinamool Congress, police said on Thursday.

According to reports, the matter came to light after members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) raised an alarm and informed the Karaya Police Station. Acting on the complaint, police detained and later arrested the accused.

Preliminary allegations suggest that Ali was allegedly charging applicants for helping them complete forms related to the state welfare scheme. Investigators are now verifying the number of affected applicants and whether others were involved in the alleged collection of money.

Reacting to the incident, BJP leader and former MP Locket Chatterjee took to social media platform X, alleging continued corruption within the ruling party’s ecosystem and citing repeated instances of irregularities linked to public schemes. The Trinamool Congress has not yet issued an official response to the arrest.

Police said further investigation is underway.
