Kolkata, 05 June (H.S.) : A complaint has been lodged against former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the cyber crime wing of Kolkata Police headquarters (Lalbazar) over her recent remarks allegedly linking the Union Home Ministry to developments connected with a murder case in Bangladesh.
The complaint has been filed by the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha, which has sought strict and exemplary legal action against the former Chief Minister, according to officials.
In a letter submitted to the officer-in-charge of the cyber crime unit at Lalbazar on Thursday night, the organisation’s state president Chandrachud Goswami alleged that Banerjee’s comments, made during a protest rally at Dharmatala’s W Channel area earlier this week, could harm India’s international image.
The complaint further states that her remarks may also disturb communal harmony in West Bengal and across the country. The organisation has urged the police to initiate an immediate investigation and take appropriate legal steps based on the findings.
Banerjee had reportedly claimed from a protest stage that after the killing of a man named Hadi in Bangladesh, the attackers allegedly crossed into Indian territory and were later arrested in West Bengal by a special task force. She also suggested, indirectly, that the Union Home Ministry had prior knowledge of the developments, a claim that has triggered political controversy.
Police officials have not yet issued an official response regarding the complaint.
