New Delhi, 30 June (H.S.): Domestic equity markets traded under sustained pressure during early trading on Tuesday after opening on a positive note. Soon after the opening bell, selling intensified, wiping out the initial gains and pushing both the Sensex and the Nifty into negative territory. By 10:00 a.m., the Sensex was down 0.22 percent, while the Nifty had declined 0.26 percent.

Among the frontline stocks, Maruti Suzuki, Axis Bank, Bharti Airtel, Titan Company and Nestle India were trading higher, gaining between 0.80 percent and 1.63 percent. On the other hand, Eicher Motors, Tata Consumer Products, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories were among the major losers, falling between 1.80 percent and 5.35 percent.

A total of 2,668 stocks were actively traded in the market during the early session. Of these, 1,352 advanced while 1,316 declined. On the BSE Sensex, 13 of the 30 constituent stocks were trading in the green, whereas 17 remained under selling pressure. On the NSE Nifty, 21 of the 50 constituent stocks were trading higher, while 29 were in negative territory.

The BSE Sensex opened 277.14 points higher at 77,005.51. However, widespread selling emerged shortly after trading began, erasing all early gains and dragging the index into the red. Although buyers made intermittent attempts to support the market, persistent selling kept the benchmark under pressure. By 10:00 a.m., the Sensex was trading 171.86 points lower at 76,556.51.

Similarly, the NSE Nifty opened 85.80 points higher at 24,032.05. Selling pressure intensified soon after the opening, causing the index to surrender its gains and slip below the previous closing level. Buyers attempted a modest recovery after the first half-hour of trade, but the market remained volatile. By 10:00 a.m., the Nifty was trading 62.10 points lower at 23,884.15.

In the previous trading session on Monday, the Sensex had closed 372.10 points, or 0.48 percent, lower at 76,728.37. The Nifty had ended the day down 109.75 points, or 0.46 percent, at 23,946.25.
