
ANKARA, June 30 (HS/RIA Novosti) - NATO's upcoming summit in Ankara will for the first time focus not only on defense spending but also on the development of the defense industry, production capacity and joint projects among member states, Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported on Tuesday.
The pro-government newspaper expects summit delegates to discuss how defense industry investments will be aligned with NATO's new goal of increasing defense spending to 5% of GDP, but also mechanisms for joint arms production and the implementation of multinational projects.
NATO's summit will be taking place in Ankara from July 7–8, gathering heads of state and government of member countries as well as the military alliance's executives. In addition to defense spending and military output, the agenda is also expected to include the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
