
New Delhi, 29 June (H.S.): Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan on Monday administered the oath of office to eight newly elected and re-elected members of the Upper House.
The members who took oath were Mansinh Meraman Parmar, Tarun Chugh, Dr. Alka Singh, Jitendra Meghjibhai Kanjaria, Rajendra Hiralal Jain, M. Nagaraja and Adhikarimayum Sharada Devi. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also took oath as a Rajya Sabha member on Monday after being re-elected from Karnataka for a second consecutive term.
Among the members, five took the oath in Hindi, one in Kannada, one in Punjabi and one in Manipuri. Of the newly sworn-in members, two represent Gujarat, while one each represents Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur and Rajasthan.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Leader of the House and Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, Rajya Sabha members Jairam Ramesh and Praful Patel, Rajya Sabha Secretary-General P.C. Mody, and other senior officials of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat.
