New Delhi, 28 June (H.S.):

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao on his birth anniversary, remembering him as a visionary leader whose contributions played a defining role in shaping India's progress during a critical period in the nation's history.

In a post on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi said Rao made enduring contributions to India's development and left a lasting impact through his leadership and administrative abilities. He described the former Prime Minister as an able administrator and an eminent scholar blessed with profound knowledge and a deep understanding of India's diverse culture.

P.V. Narasimha Rao served as India's Prime Minister from 1991 to 1996, a period widely regarded as one of the most transformative phases in the country's modern history. Under his leadership, India initiated landmark economic reforms that liberalised the economy, encouraged private investment, and opened the country to global markets. The reforms, implemented in partnership with then Finance Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, are credited with laying the foundation for India's long-term economic growth.

Apart from his political leadership, Rao was widely respected for his intellectual depth and linguistic abilities. Fluent in several Indian and foreign languages, he was also an accomplished author and scholar who made significant contributions to literature and public policy.

Prime Minister Modi said Rao's vast knowledge, administrative acumen, and commitment to national development continue to inspire generations of public servants and citizens. He noted that the former Prime Minister's vision and dedication remain an important chapter in India's democratic and developmental journey.
