Tazmin Brits’ Unbeaten Century Keeps South Africa’s Semi-Final Hopes Alive with Dominant Victory Over Netherlands

Bristol, 26 June (H.S.): Tazmin Brits struck her maiden T20 International century, while South Africa’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance as South Africa defeated the Netherlands by 88 runs in a Group A match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 on Friday (IST).

With the comprehensive victory, South Africa strengthened their semi-final hopes by moving to six points from four matches, drawing level with India in the standings. However, India continues to occupy second place in Group A owing to a superior net run rate.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, South Africa posted a formidable total of 208 for 1 in their allotted 20 overs. Opening batter Tazmin Brits remained unbeaten on a scintillating 114, while captain Laura Wolvaardt contributed 45 runs. Annerie Dercksen provided the finishing flourish with a brisk 37 off just 16 deliveries.

Brits and Wolvaardt laid a solid foundation by adding 121 runs for the opening wicket.

Chasing a daunting target of 209, the Netherlands made a promising start, scoring 50 runs without loss during the powerplay. Phoebe Molkenboer top-scored with 41, while Sanya Khurana contributed 36. However, the innings lost momentum thereafter as the batting line-up collapsed under sustained pressure.

The Netherlands eventually finished on 120 for 8 in their 20 overs against a disciplined South African bowling attack. Ayabonga Khaka claimed three wickets, while Chloe Tryon picked up two.

The result has made the race for the second semi-final berth from Group A even more competitive. England has already secured qualification for the last four.

South Africa will face Bangladesh in their final league match on June 28, while India will take on a formidable Australian side on the same day in a crucial encounter that will determine the final semi-final line-up.
