
Bathinda, 25 June (H.S.): Bathinda Police have arrested two accused in connection with the petrol bomb attack on the clinic of a BJP leader. During police custody, the accused allegedly tried to escape, resulting in injuries to their hands and legs. The action was taken on the directions of DIG Bathinda Range Harjeet Singh.
According to police, after the arrest, the accused were being brought back when they requested the vehicle to be stopped on the pretext of urinating on the Bathinda-Muktsar highway. As soon as the vehicle stopped, both accused allegedly jumped from a flyover in an attempt to escape. They sustained fractures in their hands and legs.
Following this, CIA Staff-2 and Counter Intelligence Bathinda conducted a joint operation and arrested the two accused. They have been identified as Nakhul Kumar Rajput, aged 21, and Gurwinder Singh alias Ulli, aged 22, both residents of Khuiyan Sarwar village in Fazilka district.
The incident took place on the night of June 22, 2026, at around 9:42 pm. Two unidentified persons had thrown a glass bottle filled with explosive material, suspected to be a petrol bomb, at the “Hahnemann Homeo Clinic” of BJP leader Dr Tarsem Garg, located in Vishal Nagar.
A case was registered at Kotwali Police Station, Bathinda, on June 23. During the investigation, on the basis of the statement of the complainant’s wife, a person named Shehzad Bhatti was also nominated as an accused, and Section 113 of the BNS was added to the case.
To solve the case, several teams of Bathinda Police were formed under the supervision of the SP City and SP (D). On the basis of technical investigation, CCTV footage and human intelligence, police identified three accused involved in the crime.
Preliminary questioning revealed that the third accused, identified as Sandeep Singh of Fazilka district, had allegedly promised to pay ₹3,000 each to Gurwinder Singh and Nakhul for carrying out the attack. Police said the arrested accused do not have any previous criminal record.
Police teams are conducting raids to arrest the third accused, Sandeep Singh, who is still absconding. Officials said more revelations are likely during further interrogation of the arrested accused.
