Bindu Krishna with the payasam spilled on her head

Kollam, 25 June (H.S.): Kerala Police have launched an inquiry into an incident in which hot payasam accidentally spilled on the head of Transport Minister Bindu Krishna during a public function in Kollam. State Police Chief Ravada A. Chandrasekhar has directed the Thiruvananthapuram Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident following complaints alleging lapses in security arrangements.

The incident occurred during the inauguration of the Kerala government's Priyadarshini free bus travel scheme at the Kollam KSRTC bus depot. The event witnessed large crowds, and members of the Youth Congress were distributing payasam to participants as part of the celebrations.

According to officials, the mishap took place inside a KSRTC bus when a volunteer serving payasam accidentally lost control of the container after his hand was jostled in the crowd. The hot dessert spilled onto the minister's head, prompting her to immediately jump from her seat. Those accompanying her quickly rushed to assist, using shawls and cloths to wipe off the payasam. Videos of the incident later surfaced on social media.

Despite the police ordering an inquiry, Minister Bindu Krishna dismissed suggestions that there was anything suspicious about the incident. She described it as a purely accidental occurrence caused by the rush of people at the venue.

“There is nothing unusual about what happened. It was entirely coincidental,” the minister said. She also questioned the need for a detailed investigation, noting that the police have far more serious crimes awaiting inquiry.

Police sources said the investigation would primarily examine whether there were any shortcomings in crowd management and security arrangements during the high-profile government function. Authorities are expected to submit a report after completing the inquiry.
