NEW DELHI, June 23 (HS/RIA Novosti) - Energy and fertilizer supplies, which are falling out due to the situation in the Middle East and attempts to attack Russian ships and facilities, cannot be compensated with reserves available in the world, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu said on Tuesday.
The blocking of the Strait of Hormuz has put global food and energy security at risk: energy resources and mineral fertilizers, which are important for many countries, are exported through it. This negatively affects development opportunities and creates a threat of famine for dozens of countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America, Shoigu said at a meeting of high representatives of the BRICS countries responsible for security issues.
The situation is aggravated by the ongoing attempts to damage the relevant production and port facilities in Russia, as well as pirate attacks on gas carriers and other types of transport, the official added.
The loss of Russian and Middle Eastern supplies cannot be compensated by the available global reserves, Shoigu said.
