Lucknow, 23 June (HS): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi
Adityanath honours Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his martyrdom day, known as
Balidan Diwas, which is observed every June 23. The chief minister leads
statewide tributes, honoring the founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh for his
supreme sacrifice to protect the nation's integrity and advocating the
principle of Ek Pradhan, Ek Vidhan, Ek Nishan.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid floral tributes to
former union cabinet minister Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee on his death
anniversary, which is known as Balidan Diwas. He remembered him as a great son
of Bharat Mata, a distinguished educationist, a freedom fighter, and the
visionary behind the concept of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.
Mukherjee, the founder and first president of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, is
credited with laying the groundwork for a new political direction in
independent India.
He later resigned from the Nehru government in protest of
policies that he saw as threatening national unity and integrity. Following the
first general elections in 1952, the government undermined national unity by
introducing Article 370 and implementing the permit system in Jammu and
Kashmir. In reaction, Dr Mukherjee aggressively visited Kashmir, expressing
concept of ‘Ek Pradhan, Ek Vidhan, Ek Nishan'. He was arrested and later
sacrificed his life in captivity on June 23, 1953, CM claimed.
CM added Mukherjee's goal of undivided India achieved 65 years later when PM
Narendra Modi abolished Article 370 from Kashmir. Now, Jammu and Kashmir is
actually experiencing spirit of Indian Constitution and its democratic ideals.
abrogation of Article 370 stands as tribute by BJP and PM Modi to ultimate
sacrifice of Dr Mukherjee,
UP CM remarked in a post on X, “On the martyrdom day of Dr.
Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the proclaimer of ‘Ek desh mein do vidhan, do pradhan,
do nishan, nahi chalenge’, a fierce nationalist and the founding president of
the Jan Sangh, humble tribute. His supreme sacrifice for the unity and
integrity of India will forever keep the flame of nationalism ignited in the
heart of every citizen of the country.”
