Imphal, 23 June (HS): Security forces have intensified counter-insurgency operations across Manipur, resulting in the arrest of an active militant, the recovery of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition and the detention of two alleged extortionists linked to a banned outfit.

Acting on intelligence inputs, security personnel on June 22 apprehended an active cadre of the RPF/PLA, identified as Oinam Dhanaraj Singh alias Abung (29), a resident of Leirongthel Pitra Yairipok in Thoubal district. He was arrested from Khumanlampak near ISBT in Imphal West district. A Honda Activa scooter was seized during the operation.

In a separate development, a coordinated search operation was launched by Manipur Police, CRPF, RAF, COBRA, and the Army in the areas of Leilon Vaiphei, Leilon Munlui, Molhoi, P. Moulding, Leilon Khunou, and adjoining locations following reports of armed militant presence. During the operation, security forces engaged in an exchange of fire with suspected militants. The operation, which continued from June 20 to June 22, led to the recovery of 36 firearms, including AK-47 rifles, an M4 Carbine, SLRs, an SKS rifle, an improvised sniper rifle, single and double-barrel guns, and SBL rifles. A large quantity of ammunition, communication devices, and other war-like stores were also seized.

Meanwhile, security forces arrested two alleged extortionists associated with the KCP (MFL) from Thoubal Bazar under Thoubal Police Station. The arrested individuals were identified as Abujam Sumit Singh alias Tangbi (20) of Imphal West district and Makuchung Gangmei (23) of Noney district. Forty-eight donation cards were recovered from their possession during the operation.

Security agencies stated that sustained operations against militant and extortion networks will continue across the state to maintain law and order and ensure public safety.----------
