New Delhi, 23 June (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his Martyrdom Day, saying that his dedication to national interest, courage and ideals continue to inspire the people of India.

In a post on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister described Dr. Mookerjee as a great patriot, distinguished scholar and visionary statesman who devoted his entire life to the development of India and the cause of national unity.

Prime Minister Modi said that Dr. Mookerjee's unwavering commitment to public service, his courage and his steadfast dedication to the nation's interests would continue to inspire future generations.

He further stated that Dr. Mookerjee's sacrifice would forever remain etched in the collective memory of the nation and reaffirmed the resolve to follow his ideals in building a developed and strong India.

In another post, the Prime Minister shared a Sanskrit verse, saying that the powerful thoughts and ideals of Dr. Mookerjee, who remained devoted throughout his life to the selfless service of the nation and society, would continue to inspire every generation to serve the motherland.

Sharing the Sanskrit verse, Prime Minister Modi wrote:

Na karmana na prajaya dhanena tyagenaike amritatvamanashuh. Parena nakam nihitam guhayam vibharajate yadyatayo vishanti.

Explaining the meaning of the verse, the Prime Minister said that immortality or the highest honour cannot be attained merely through actions, progeny or material wealth. Rather, the highest ideals are achieved through selfless sacrifice. Those who dedicate themselves to sacrifice, renunciation and austerity attain the supreme truth and the highest purpose of human life.

Prime Minister Modi said that the life of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee remains an unparalleled example of sacrifice, service to the nation and selfless dedication, and will continue to inspire the people of the country for generations to come.
