Global markets signalled weakness on Monday, with Asian equities largely trading under selling pressure. Wall Street ended the previous session on a mixed note, while Dow Jones Futures also traded lower. European markets, too, delivered mixed performances in the previous session.

On Wall Street, trading remained under pressure during the previous session due to weakness in mega-cap technology stocks. However, late buying helped the Dow Jones Industrial Average recover, closing 148.01 points, or 0.29 per cent, higher at 51,712.71. In contrast, the S&P 500 Index ended the session 0.37 per cent lower at 7,472.79, while the Nasdaq Composite declined by 351.33 points, or 1.32 per cent, to close at 26,166.60. Meanwhile, Dow Jones Futures were trading 0.07 per cent lower at 51,678.89.

European markets also ended the previous session with mixed results. The FTSE Index advanced 0.71 per cent to close at 10,437.85. Similarly, Germany's DAX Index gained 153.87 points, or 0.61 per cent, to settle at 25,139.69. In contrast, France's CAC Index slipped 0.25 per cent to close at 8,400.11.

Asian markets also reflected a broadly weak trend on Monday. Of the nine major Asian benchmark indices, eight were trading in negative territory, while only one index remained in the green. Singapore's Straits Times Index was the sole gainer, rising 0.18 per cent to trade at 5,213.53.

On the other hand, GIFT Nifty was trading 0.02 per cent lower at 24,095.50, indicating a subdued opening for the Indian market. The Jakarta Composite Index declined 0.34 per cent to 6,096.04. South Korea's Kospi Index witnessed a sharp fall and was trading lower by 422.90 points, or 4.64 per cent.

Similarly, Taiwan Weighted Index fell by 548.92 points, or 1.15 per cent, to 47,192.59. Japan's Nikkei Index declined 758.96 points, or 1.05 per cent, to 71,595. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index slipped 243.52 points, or 1.02 per cent, to 23,525. Thailand's SET Composite Index was down 0.78 per cent at 1,561.89, while China's Shanghai Composite Index declined 0.37 per cent to trade at 4,147.55.
