Pritam Kendre Credits Technical Focus After Winning Gold at ISSF Junior World Championship

Suhl(Germany), 22 June (H.S.): India's 16-year-old shooter Pritam Kendre announced himself on the international stage in style by winning the gold medal in the men's 10m air rifle event at the ISSF Junior World Championship 2026.

Competing in only his second international tournament, Pritam delivered a composed and outstanding performance in the eight-shooter final, finishing on top with a score of 251.3 points. Neutral athlete Timofei Aleinikov claimed the silver medal, while Norway's Jens Østli secured the bronze.

Reflecting on his world title triumph, Pritam said his sole focus throughout the competition was on his technique and executing every shot to the best of his ability.

I am extremely happy with this victory. Throughout the competition, my focus remained entirely on my technique, and I tried to give my best with every shot, Pritam said in an official statement.

The young shooter from Pune also credited the Gagan Narang Gun for Glory Shooting Academy for playing a significant role in his success.

The coaches at the academy provided me with extensive personal guidance. Our preparation has always been centred on improving technique, and I believe that was the biggest reason behind this success, he said.

Pritam, who recently completed his Class 10 examinations, said the achievement would motivate him to perform even better in the future.

Winning the gold medal at the World Championship has greatly boosted my confidence. I want to continue improving in the 10m air rifle event and win many more medals for India in the years ahead, he added.

The fifth edition of the ISSF Junior World Championship is being held in Suhl, Germany, with more than 800 shooters from 70 national federations participating. India has fielded an 84-member contingent for the competition.

At the previous edition, held in Lima, Peru, in 2024, India finished at the top of the medals table with 24 medals, including 13 gold, three silver, and eight bronze.

The championship will conclude on June 26.
