Washington, 22 June (H.S.): US President Donald Trump has invoked the Defence Production Act (DPA) to strengthen the country's stockpile of weapons and military equipment. The move comes amid growing concerns over the depletion of American military reserves following the prolonged conflict with Iran and other global security crises.

In a memorandum issued on June 11, President Trump directed Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth to remove obstacles affecting defence production and prepare new agreements with the military-industrial sector. The Defence Production Act grants the President the authority to prioritise the production of goods, weapons and materials considered essential for national security.

Meanwhile, China and Pakistan have stressed the need to advance peace efforts in the Middle East. During a telephone conversation, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar discussed the US-Iran situation and the evolving regional security environment.

According to China's Foreign Ministry, both countries expressed support for a ceasefire, the resumption of peace negotiations, the protection of maritime trade routes and a stronger role for the United Nations. China also reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing strategic coordination with Pakistan and working jointly to promote peace and stability in the region.

Separately, Iran warned Israel of a military response following recent attacks in southern Lebanon. The Iranian military leadership alleged that Israel had repeatedly violated the ceasefire agreement and cautioned that any continuation of such attacks would invite a firm response.

Analysts believe that the nearly 15-week conflict involving Iran, along with other military operations, has highlighted the need for the United States to replenish its stockpile of weapons and missiles. As a result, the Trump administration is also considering measures to expand domestic defence manufacturing capacity while reviewing policies to limit military supplies to allied nations.

The US Congress is also working towards approving additional funding and long-term contracts to boost the production of critical missile systems and defence equipment. Experts believe these measures will strengthen America's military preparedness to address future security challenges.
