New Delhi, 21 June (H.S.): Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, on the occasion of the International Day of Yoga, said that yoga is India's timeless and ancient tradition that fosters complete harmony between the body, mind and soul. He said the true strength of yoga lies in its holistic nature, as it promotes not only physical health but also emotional balance, mental resilience and social connectedness. He stressed that people should be encouraged to adopt yoga from an early age, as the earlier one begins the practice, the greater the cumulative benefits throughout life.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday shared the Vice President's article published in an English daily on social media platform X. While sharing the article titled Yoga for Healthy Ageing: Adding Life to Years, the Prime Minister urged people to read it and appreciated the profound impact of yoga on human well-being.

In his article, the Vice President also highlighted the importance of modern education and healthcare policies. Expressing satisfaction, he noted that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has accorded yoga a significant place as an integral component of health, well-being and value-based education, describing it as a positive step towards connecting the younger generation with this ancient practice.

Describing yoga as an effective solution to the physical and mental challenges associated with ageing, the Vice President said that medical research and studies published in leading journals such as The Lancet have established that regular yoga practice significantly improves balance, flexibility and mobility among senior citizens, thereby substantially reducing both the risk and fear of falls. He called upon individuals, society and institutions to embrace yoga not merely as an occasional form of exercise but as a lifelong healthy lifestyle practice and an enduring cultural tradition.
